OK, I credited the Savage with too much hp, when I said 32. Now I have been reading 25 to 28 and possibly 30 @ 5400rpm.
An interesting question that readers might answer is: does the slightly higher 5sp. model develop any higher speed, then the slightly lower geared 4sp. model?????

I cut and pasted an interesting post by Max, which follows:

Finally found the SuperTrapp advertisement for their muffler. Claimed Rear wheel HP stock peaks at 58 MPH (no gear stated) 26 HP and with a ST and 8 discs is peak is 59/60 MPH and 30 rear wheel HP. They show a top speed of 75 stock and 78 with the ST. NO date but the picture is of a light colored bike (so probably one of the yellow 96's) but the run could have been made with a 4 speed 86-88 model. Also their speed would be corrected on the dyno rollers, not what the speedo shows. They have a web site it is http://www.supertrapp.com.. BTW 8 discs in my ST was loud, may be what you want, I also felt the low end suffered, but the graph doesn't support that. Must have been a 4 speed as they show the run starting at 22 MPH stock, 25 MPH with ST an that would be too slow for mine in 5th.
All it would change is the top speed numbers. With the 5th gear there is longer engine life and better fuel economy at normal cruise speeds.
